Hemophilia is a rare inherited blood disorder in which the blood does not clot properly due to a deficiency of clotting factors, leading to a lifelong risk of excessive bleeding either spontaneously or after injury. The condition is mainly seen in two forms: hemophilia A, caused by a lack of clotting factor VIII, and hemophilia B, caused by a lack of clotting factor IX. High annual treatment costs mean relatively small changes in patient switching can create meaningful revenue movements, while payer coverage, treatment persistence and demonstrated reduction in administration burden remain important to adoption.
